Kerry Wave 2015 Report

The first round of the IWA wave series kicked off the weekend of the 28/29 March. As it was a 1-day event the forecast looked better on the Sunday with 30-50knts easing to 20-30knts with a 3m swell. Some of the entrants arrived early and ventured out on Saturday evening as the wind started to build and logo high sets coming in.

11 entrants in total, 4 Silver and 7 Gold gathered on Fermoyle Beach in Brandon Bay. 8 - 3 or 4 man heats were run to determine the winners. All tricks were pulled from the bag with Finn landing both a forward and a back loop to take first place in the Silver and first youth (watch out Gold Fleet). In the Gold the top 3 places were tightly contested with Nial claiming the best waves and the 2 Dans battling it out with massive stalled forwards, big backloops and pushies. Jony was putting on a show trying 360s and Goiters “all day”, but failing to pull them off - did not advance. Dan Gardner took the win in the final heat, with Nial Mellon and Dan Kealy in 2nd and 3rd.

A big thank you to Jamie Knox Water Sports (Jeremy & Jamie) for hosting the event and to the 3 judges with the help of Ding keeping track of flags and results, and Rob for making up the streamers. Also thanks to Marco Cavalleri who came all the way down from Galway to capture some of the action. See the pics here.
